Kuala Lumpur-Singapore HSR track alignment

State Public Works, Rural and Regional Development Committee chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad told New Straits Times that Johor has finalised the High Speed Rail HSR track alignment connecting Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. He said that HSR track will run on the western side of the South Expressway.

Hasni said the HSR transit station in Johor will located between Sungai Mati and Bukit Pasir in Muar, Ayer Hitam in Batu Pahat and Nusajaya in Iskandar Malaysia before connecting to Singapore through Second Link. The transit station at Nusajaya will be near to Second Link in Tanjung Kupang and running parallel with Second Link crossing over the Straits of Johor. Next month’s 11th Malaysia-Singapore Joint Ministerial Committee meeting is expected to focus on the HSR track alignment.

Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Tan Sri Dr Syed Hamid Albar said the HSR project is expected to start at the end of next year and completed by 2020. He said that the cost of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore HSR is RM38.4 billion including the purchase of high speed bullet trains and locomotives.

Syed Hamid said that 7 HSR transit station had neen identified which are Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Seremban, Ayer Keroh, Muar, Batu Pahat and Nusajaya. He said the state government has been approved the proposal during the Economic Planning Unit.

The goal of the HSR is to enhance the connectivity between both country capital city in Malaysia and Singapore and reduces the travel time to 90 minutes from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.

Economic analyst Mr Hoo said the Kuala Lumpur – Singapore high speed rail HSR once completed would have domino effect to both Malaysia and counterpart country Singapore. “We would enter a new phase of tourism by having more foreign tourists coming into Malaysia.”

Mr Hoo also mentioned that although the HSR project is mainly concentrate in Johor, neighboring states like Malacca, Negeri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur would also benefit from it. He expect an increase in property growth as well as other sectors as the spillover effects from the HSR project.
